As law enforcement officers, we expect a great deal from the communities in which we patrol. For example, we ask for community members' assistance when looking for missing persons, working cold cases, calling in suspicious incidents, or even when we need emergency backup.
To that end, we embrace the principles of Community Policing in our daily operations and functions. Community Policing is basically a partnership between the Sheriff's Office and the community whereby our deputies and the community share responsibility for identifying, reducing, eliminating and preventing problems that impact community safety and order.
By working together, the Sheriff's Office and the community can reduce the fear and incidence of crime and improve the quality of life in neighborhoods countywide. In this effort, the community and the Sheriff's Office work as partners to identify and prioritize problems of crime and disorder and share the responsibility for the development and implementation of proactive problem-solving strategies to address identified issues.
We work each day to provide the best quality law enforcement service, at the same time working to maintain the public’s trust and confidence in us. These are keys to our success and cannot ever be taken for granted. We endeavor to earn this trust and confidence each day, with each contact we have, and by each action we take. One does not have to look far to see the difficult time some communities across our country have experienced when community-law enforcement relations are at odds.
